Two birds talking
Look at the two birds. They are conversing. How do we portray this?
How do you converse with your soulmate?
They speak with vibrance and you listen with vibrance.
And, you both feel a special bond and feel relaxed at the same time.
So, you have to show your peace and calmness and energy and joy at the same time.
Let us use color and shapes to do the same.
Purple or violet is a color which is made by mixing the warm red and the cool blue. We still use the cooler shades of violet and magenta. Violet and magenta are similar colors and we can use both of them to create some variation.
Look at these colors which are formed by a mix of red and blue.
The ones that lean more towards blue are cool colors.
The ones that lean more towards red are warm colors.
And, look at the shape of the birds. They are sitting face to face.
One bird is flapping their wings because that bird is talking. Their partner is sitting and listening with rapt attention.
And, both have the same color. It is what a soulmate is, one completes the other.
Violet and orange-yellow colors create a great contrast.
But do you know that yellow-orange colors have a deeper inner meaning?
Most yellow and orange colored things are related to juicy fruits like oranges and papayas. They are neither completely red which can represent lust or anger. Nor do they represent the pale nature of blue.
So, yellow and orange are vibrant colors and represent plenty of fruits or at least flowers which will lead to juicy fruits.
So, the two birds are not just young lovers, they also have plenty at their home and a lot of happiness. They are ready to become Mamma and Papa birds and have a lot of young ones.
A picture is not just a picture, we are not AI robots. We are humans and when we paint, we must try to express our emotions in that one painting.
The color wheel
We are using yellow-orange color alongside purple. It is because they are almost opposite each other in the color wheel.
Colors far away from each other on the color wheel create a great contrast.
Look at the pink flowers and the multicolored leaves.
Pink of course represents blooming love.
And, the three shades of green have three different stories to tell.
I just wanted to show how to fill a white space while maintaining some white space.
The light green is so vibrant and energetic. It pairs perfectly with the orange and yellow colors. It provides a continuity of colors and shapes around the flowers. And, since leaves represent the background, these green leaves show that the background is full of warmth and color too.
The cool green represents shade and stability for the birds. Green has so many shades and the proportion and pattern in which you arrange these shapes have a lot of message to convey.
The olive green is close to yellow and provides a good continuity. It means there is plenty to eat.
Olive green is also the color of tender leaves which shows the growth of tenderness in these lovebirds' lives.
The surrounding areas represent the emotions of the birds.
It is indeed a multicolored space the birds spend their time.
Why do we keep some white space between the leaves?
Because while represents light and neutrality paired with peace.
They are having this conversation during the daylight and a lot of light and peace fills the space.
Green is a very versatile color and it is so easy to paint leaves. They recede into the background but provide the basis for everything that a painting has to say.
At the top branch, we have used the color wheel to create an amazing effect using complimentary colors. We have also used color temperature (warm and cool colors.). It attracts a lot of attention and is full of vivid details.
The bottom branch also contains birds but almost all the colors used are warm colors. The birds are barely visible when you first look at the picture.
We have done this on purpose. Then why did we draw the bottom branch when we don't want a lot of focus to be directed at it?
Besides, why did we use warm colors for the bottom branch and not cool colors?
It is because we want to show that our two lovebirds on the top branch are noe alone in their locality. There are others too who have loving families. The bottom branch has birds to portray that.
We use warm colors for the bottom branch because warm colors tend to appear close to the viewer and the cool colors seem to recede away from the viewer.
The warm colors in the bottom branch makes the viewer feel that they live close to the periphery of the forest and the two lovebirds at the top live in a highly protected place away from the forest periphery.
